From 1998 to 2009 the Bernard A. Gilhooly Award was presented  to persons who emulated the undying persistence of the Irish People by "passing on" Irish Culture in the Quad Cities and outlying areas. Winners received a bronze statuette of Annie Moore, first immigrant registered through Ellis Island, and a certificate of recognition.
